Upwey South Primary School Council comprises a group of dedicated staff and parents who are working together for the ‘big picture’ future of the school and ultimately our students.
Councillors collaborate to ensure high quality governance of our school and monitor finance, facilities and school policies. School Council ensures that these integral areas of the school are running smoothly, and that the best possible learning environments and resources are provided for Upwey South students.

SCHOOL COUNCIL SUBCOMMITTEES
Sub-committees assist council in the work that needs to be done and report regularly at school council meetings. They provide advice and make recommendations to school council, which has the final responsibility for making decisions.
Finance and Facilities Subcommittee:
Oversee the governance, aspects of financial management, improvement targets and aspects of the strategic direction of school physical resources. Make financial recommendations to School Council. This subcommittee will also oversee the organization and distribution of Working Bees for the wider school community.
Policy Development Subcommittee (Education):
Oversee the development and updating of polices which govern the practice of the school. Provide updates and recommendations to School Council based upon VRQA and DET legal requirements.
Community Relations Subcommittee:
Oversee and act as the conduit between the PTA and the School Council. With the aim of aligning joint practices and directions to promote community engagement; overseeing fundraising initiatives; coordinating PTA dates with wider school calendar dates; communicating opportunities for students, families and staff to engage with the wider community. This committee will also present PTA Minutes to School Council.
Who can join a subcommittee?
The membership, purpose and terms of reference of sub-committees are determined by the council. Members of a subcommittee may be school council and non-school council members. Subcommittees must have at least three members including at least one school council member.
It is a Standing Order of School Council, that all subcommittees: have a minimum of three members; contain at least one existing USPS staff member; are open to members of the school community who do not hold a School Council position.
It is a Standing Order of School Council, that all school councillors are to be a member of a subcommittee. School Councillors may be a member of more than one subcommittee.
